TMC’s Troubles Mount After Poll Loss, Temporary HQ Faces Eviction
After suffering a major defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections, the troubles for the Trinamool Congress (TMC) appear to be growing rapidly. The party has now been asked to vacate its temporary headquarters, popularly known as “Trinamool Bhavan,” located near Kolkata’s Eastern Metropolitan Bypass. This development has added fresh pressure on the party at a politically sensitive time. The building, a G+4 structure situated in the metropolitan area of Kolkata, has been serving as the TMC’s temporary headquarters since May 2022. The party had shifted its operations there after redevelopment work began at its original headquarters in Topsia. However, the owner of the current building has now reportedly asked the TMC leadership to vacate the premises within the next two months. According to reports, the building owner, Montu Saha, who is also associated with Modern Decorators, cited security concerns and the expiration of the lease agreement as the primary reasons behind the decision. Saha reportedly clarified that the move was not influenced by any political pressure. He explained that after the election results were announced on May 4, incidents of vandalism and unrest were witnessed outside the building, raising concerns over the safety and security of the property. Sources suggest that the TMC leadership has acknowledged the owner’s concerns and assured him that the party will shift its office to another location soon. The search for a new temporary headquarters may begin shortly as the party tries to manage the growing challenges following its electoral setback. The issue has become another significant embarrassment for the Trinamool Congress, which is already dealing with the political fallout of losing power in West Bengal. Political observers believe the party now faces not only organizational challenges but also logistical difficulties as it attempts to regroup after the defeat. Meanwhile, redevelopment work at the party’s original Topsia headquarters is still underway. Once completed, the office is expected to be transformed into a modern and upgraded political headquarters. Until then, the TMC may need to operate from another temporary location in Kolkata. With mounting pressure both politically and organizationally, the latest development highlights the uncertain phase the Trinamool Congress is currently facing after its election loss.
