A fresh political controversy erupted after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi called Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah “traitors” during a public rally in Raebareli on Wednesday. The remarks triggered sharp criticism from BJP leaders, especially Bihar BJP President Nitin Nabin, who termed Rahul Gandhi’s statement “unfortunate” and reflective of an “anarchist mindset.”
Nitin Nabin said Indian politics is built on dignity, mutual respect, and constitutional values, and Rahul Gandhi’s language crossed acceptable political boundaries. According to him, the repeated electoral defeats faced by the Congress party are now visible in Rahul Gandhi’s attitude and public statements. He accused the Congress leader of making irresponsible comments out of frustration and disappointment.
Defending the Modi government, Nitin Nabin highlighted several issues, including anti-corruption measures, national security, and efforts against terrorism and Naxalism. He questioned how actions such as protecting the nation’s borders, strengthening the respect for the national flag globally, and curbing terrorism could be labeled as “treason.” He stressed that the current government follows a zero-tolerance policy toward corruption and works in the national interest.
The controversy began when Rahul Gandhi, while addressing a gathering in Raebareli, accused the BJP leadership and the RSS of attacking the Constitution. He claimed that the Modi government weakened democratic institutions and favored industrialists like Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani by handing over the country’s wealth to them. Rahul Gandhi also alleged electoral manipulation and said he would never apologize for his statements despite criticism from BJP and RSS supporters.
Rahul Gandhi further warned about a coming economic crisis in India. He claimed that rising fuel prices and economic instability are signs of deeper problems in the country. He accused large business groups of benefiting from international oil trade while ordinary citizens continue to suffer from inflation and unemployment. According to him, the central government has weakened India’s economic structure and failed to protect the interests of common people.
The exchange has once again intensified the political battle between the Congress and the BJP ahead of upcoming elections, with both parties aggressively targeting each other over nationalism, governance, and constitutional values.
