US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi during his four-day visit to India. The high-level meeting lasted around 60 minutes and focused on strengthening the growing partnership between India and the United States. Rubio also extended an invitation to PM Modi to visit the White House, signaling the importance both nations place on their diplomatic relationship. Before arriving in Delhi, Rubio visited Kolkata, marking the first visit by a US Secretary of State to the city in 14 years. The last such visit was made by Hillary Clinton in 2012. During his time in Kolkata, Rubio paid tribute at the Mother Teresa House of the Missionaries of Charity before heading to the national capital. After the meeting, PM Modi shared details of the discussions and said he was pleased to welcome Rubio to India. According to the Prime Minister, both leaders discussed the progress of the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership along with major regional and international issues related to peace and security. Modi emphasized that India and the United States would continue working together for global stability and development. Several senior Indian officials attended the meeting, including External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. Discussions reportedly covered key areas such as trade, investment, energy cooperation, emerging technologies, and defense partnerships. US Ambassador Sergio Gor also shared details about the meeting on Instagram, describing the talks as productive and focused on deepening cooperation in security, trade, and technology sectors. He highlighted that India and the US remain important strategic partners with shared interests across multiple areas. Rubio is also scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Jaishankar and attend the Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting in New Delhi. The ongoing visit is expected to further strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between the two countries while addressing important global concerns such as the West Asia crisis and international energy supply challenges.
