Marco Rubio Jokes About Delhi Heat Before Ending Press Briefing
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio struggled with Delhi’s scorching summer heat during his official visit to India, humorously cutting short a press conference while inaugurating the new US Embassy Support Annex building. With temperatures in the national capital soaring to nearly 45 degrees Celsius, Rubio admitted that the weather was overwhelming even for someone from Miami, a city known for its hot climate. Speaking briefly at the event, he joked that the heat in Delhi felt completely different and said he did not want to keep people standing outside for too long, drawing laughter from the audience. Despite the extreme weather, Rubio highlighted the growing importance of the India-US partnership. He described the relationship between the two countries as a key pillar of their long-term strategic goals and said his visit was focused on strengthening ties further. According to Rubio, the coming months could bring several major announcements aimed at expanding cooperation between India and the United States in various sectors. During his speech, Rubio also praised the close relationship between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former US President Donald Trump. He said the connection between the two leaders was clearly visible and noted that both leaders think beyond short-term politics and focus on long-term goals. Rubio emphasized that the relationship first strengthened during Trump’s first administration and continues to remain strong. Earlier in the day, Rubio held a meeting with Prime Minister Modi that reportedly lasted more than an hour. During the discussion, the two leaders talked about important regional and global security issues and explored ways to deepen strategic cooperation between India and the United States. Rubio also extended an official invitation from Donald Trump, inviting Modi to visit the White House in the near future. After the meeting, Modi shared details on social media, stating that both sides discussed several global and regional challenges and agreed on the need to further strengthen bilateral relations. Rubio reiterated that ties with India remain extremely important for the United States and described the partnership as essential for future strategic goals. Marco Rubio arrived in Kolkata on Saturday morning for his first official visit to India since taking office. His four-day visit is being viewed as an important step toward deepening the growing friendship, diplomatic engagement, and strategic partnership between the two nations.
